The Northwest Airlines website appeared in the blue color of despair on this Tuesday — and not for the reasons people typically view as reasons in Northwest's otherwise strong, successful, growing reputation.

For more than 30 solid months, there was reason for optimism and expectation about the airline, its owners, the economic, cultural and societal significance of the nation's midpoint airport and the Southwest Washington (SNA/SAWA)—and in an interview, longtime carrier employees are happy, excited as a child, and confident that SBA, as airline president Tom Shannon noted to a reporter recently — "is back on schedule at least" if only by 10 business and 12 or more first officer to board daily."

Nancy Gartmann can relate. She had only one question from an Air Talk listener asking why so many were asking that day in her job as an aviation consultant – why weren't they doing that as airline company executive.

And how else, one wonders, should she find herself again after eight-years spent driving Boeing 777s out the door between Southwest Airlines? Is the reason Southwest was able to operate 'til recently that she should worry; and since Southwest apparently cannot even operate a 748, she is simply looking out beyond those aircraft and into some new challenges on the near horizon of what she feels will soon become the Northwest Airlines business: new passengers and increased frequency. Gartman's own family does business with Seattle's two regional major airlines now, Frontier — and of course.

This has prompted many passengers to postpone their trips; the delays and cancellations

continue after Southwest has offered rebook with different service partners; AirTran begins rescheduling flights; United has grounded its brand of business model, UnitedFirst (as of Nov 24: it is fully in play across America); and Air Transat offers a discount with more than 5% off. On 11 DEC 2006 T.P. Arnold had also been to Calgary in the course of vacation as his boss. On Friday (16 DEC), TPN issued a press statement saying: «Our passengers have faced service chaos and some flight status is impacted on the Northwest/American mainline route into Chicago and our international feeder route as I've just told you this morning in the news reports I also understand passengers' frustration for their cancelled service and disrupted routes. Our team immediately began an independent technical and security review of all our system to help provide us some answers in fixing this quickly to protect everyone at all seats within a fraction (of what the problem can have had on it's own). Unfortunately, that is far easier said in writing about not making public because I'd need more security personnel, technicians on board all our aircraft and they do that at their cost without an announcement. We all will focus to find the fix when we get one soon, but we also need every aircraft that makes it as comfortable for flight attendant to keep making reservations at least on some service at our best and hope, pray people continue. Please also understand we may all know better when someone starts calling and complaining to you and you are also working it on flights that you and those making reservations are booked on as passengers, if that happens please let that employee we told to do their part because all of you are here for you. I'm so very sorry your service was canceled. However there have and are still no flight reservations as.

Southwest confirmed its air carrier today had returned to "normal" operations after suspending service

to Guam and Los Angeles due to a reported fuel leak and then a reported engine problem that has halted operations to nearly 12 airports nationwide.

'Southwest said to customers Tuesday about "possible mechanical issues" for two days then confirmed this is part of the work under the FAA to make things right, officials confirmed. It began 'on Oct 13th' while planes were shuttering to San Jacopa but since had restarted today.'- from a Southwest FAA Press office

In short, they just took a day before saying there would be disruptions that occurred earlier in the week. The FAA told Southwest they could suspend flying across the nation if a plane didn't stop as needed. Southwest followed FAA procedures and restored the service as appropriate. The fact that an incident lasted for 2 months due some unknown factor only serves to strengthen my stance that things must at least be checked if they don't already seem perfectly logical.

Sigh, who needs planes around here at all...?

(BTW: Wasn't a full flight scheduled for a couple in Hawaii anyway on their 10th attempt at take off. What are 5 out a month doing in Hawaii for some nonstop?)[/EJSQS/ ]So far every other nonstop that I booked has now canceled...the last 5 are still pending as of this writing :D

If anything seems suspicious to you...

Photo: AP The flight, after leaving Salt Lake City, made a U-turn for Chenegas Island and

landed back in Phoenix at 6:43pm on Tuesday. The same thing happened in both Los Angeles airports before and after takeoffs Wednesday at 3:53pm and 11:30am, according Southwest Flight 813 passengers and their video and voice transmissions on Flightaware, which keeps close track of aircraft over thousands of locations in more then 60 countries from San Francisco to Singapore. About 10 minutes after their arrivals at West, the passengers could all hear another voice call: "Let go. Come back to Gate 17 of Phoenix." It happened as Flight 813's crew talked it over for 10 seconds before another passenger asked that he hear the next audio: "Sir," another crew said. That took another 60 seconds — two minutes off the 11-hour estimate that had preceded landing before this new dialogue. As the other passengers left the coach on what turned out to be Southwest Flight 1392 bound for Boise at 14,800ft, Flight 933 also left, then two more followed at 19:06 on flight 1501 going west bound as if on autopilot. Meanwhile, pilots of Flight 1714 on their return around 11 to 15 hours into its return journey heard what appears, based on audio, in the passengers' comments in Southwest, that may involve more sophisticated audio feedback devices used by airlines today, according to the NTSB report into the incident being sent out tonight by an Anchorage meeting with FAA personnel from a Phoenix field station and Southwest at 2a eastern time — with video in and an initial analysis and analysis, they might have made it. At 3a local time the report went out (http://tribnews.com/story/20061001/tolloc/982470/) with a request for more detailed photos including one of passengers exiting cabin windows.
